#1. CAMPENDIUM

Camping | Free | Account Required

Campendium is a your one stop shop for finding the best places to stay for the night or more. Featuring campgrounds and parks all across America from RV Resorts, to State Parks, to Public Land, and National Parks. This app seriously has it all. Anything you might want to know about a campground before you go is all there such as the cost, what the cell signal is like and which carrier has the best coverage. Whether the sites have full or partial hookups, are big rig friendly, and allow tents. As well as other amenities offered like laundry facilities, showers, and pet policies.

Campendium users can rate a campground 1 to 5 stars, leave reviews, and share pictures of there experience, letting you know whether its a good place to stay or not. Exact locations and links to websites are found on a campgrounds profile so you can book your stay or find out more information. Our favorite part is that you can save the spots you like on your account so you won’t forget an awesome campground.

For a more in-depth idea of the campground, combine Campendium with google reviews.

#2. ALL TRAILS

Hiking | Free | Account Required

If your looking to get on a trail and sight see, look no further than All Trails. All Trails is the ultimate trail app to see the outdoors. From casual day strolls to overnight backpacking trails, All Trails has something for everyone.

Users can explore trails in popular areas such as National Parks, State Forests, and in cities. Distance, difficulty, elevation gain, and time are all stats covered on a trails profile. Maps, pet policy, weather conditions and any updates about the trail can be found here too.

Users can read recent reviews of other hiker’s experience letting you know if it’s a trail worth doing or not. Another great feature of All Trails is that you can create lists and save the trails you want to do on your trip.

#3. ACCUWEATHER

Weather | Free | No Account Required

When you’re on a road trip checking the weather becomes a daily routine. Often times we are visiting new areas and may not know the normal weather pattern for the area.

In the desert, flash floods can occur any time when it rains or when you’re in the mountains the weather at higher elevations can be significantly different from the town you may be staying in. Either way, staying informed on the weather forecast is an important feature on a roadtrip. We’ve found AccuWeather to be a reliable source to plan our adventures with the weather.

#4. APPLE MAPS

Maps | Free | No Account Required

There’s nothing like hitting the open road and getting stuck in traffic or having an unexpected toll. Our go to app for navigation is Apple Maps. This app offers various route options as well as notifying you of speed checks and accidents on the route. Another great app for navigation is Waze. We don’t have too much experience with this app but know many people that love it.

If you are traveling with a larger set up, such as a fifth wheel or large motorhome, TruckMaps is a great app to use. You can input the specs of your vehicle into the app and it will plan your route in accordance to your size. No low bridges or tight squeezes for you.

#5. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

Trip Planning | Free | Account Required

If you are planning a trip to any National Park, you definitely need the National Park Service App. This App is essential in helping you plan your adventures in which ever National Park you visit. From providing the best things to do, where to stay, park entry fees, directions, hours, as well as contact information, having the complete 411 on a National Park is extremely helpful.

Also a big feature of the app is staying updated on any changes going on in the park such as road closures, construction, and reservations. We love the NPS App.

#6. GAS BUDDY

Gas Stations | Free | Account Required

Gas Buddy is a great app for finding the best gas prices on your route. As well all know some gas stations can be .20 cents different in price which makes a BIG difference when you’re on a road trip. Gas Buddy users can search the app by fuel type, specific gas station and location making it easy to find the best deal. Gas Buddy also has a ton of other features such as gas cards, savings, and memberships. Mike loves going to Love’s to fill up on fuel so we use the app to find the nearest one when we’re on the road.
